“Yahoo has revamped Delicious, saying the site for storing, describing, and sharing Web site bookmarks is faster, easier to use, and has better search abilities.
The speedup comes from a new server system that’s snappier and more reliable, Yahoo said on its Delicious blog on Thursday. “You may not have noticed, but the old back-end was getting creaky under the load of 5 million users,” the company said.
But for me, half the productivity gains will come from a rebranding of the service. No more will my fingers trip over my keyboard trying to type “del.icio.us,” the old name of the service, because Yahoo now is calling it just plain old Delicious. I’ve been using it for years. Why? Several reasons. I use multiple computers and I can access my delicious bookmarks anywhere. I can also share them with other people [see the ‘Resources’ page above. Finally, when I create a blog post, I can automatically tag my post for delicious which increases the chance that someone will find my content. There are also Firefox extensions for delicious including delicious bookmarks and shareaholic that make using it even better. Check it out today!
7/4/2011 ‘Blog Post Promoter’ is having fun with me again, reminding me that recommending products is tricky business! Since this original recommendation 3 years ago, Yahoo! has fallen on hard times and the future of delicious is in doubt. Still, I believe in the principle of public bookmarking — I just use Google Reader Shared Items instead now and Google Bookmarks for my private stuff.
