Two big Google epiphanies for me this week…
- I’m going to have to hold my nose and use Google+ if I want better search rankings…
- Google Drive is going to be better for me than Dropbox [which I have used and loved for a long time]
Regarding #1, I don’t like using Google+ which is really strange considering I’m such a Google fanboy but sharing on Google+ is still slow and Google+ is still unsupported by my favorite tools like Buffer. Looks like I’m going to have to get over it if I want the search rankings…
Since Google introduced “Search Plus Your World,” most Google Search users have seen results that add more emphasis to sites shared on Google+.One search engine marketing firm, TastyPlacement, took it upon themselves to conduct an unscientific-ish study to determine just how much of an effect Google+ promotion has on search ranking. It turns out having Google+ followers boosts the ranking the most, while a “+1″ still does way more for your search ranking than Facebook or Twitter.Twitter actually ranks the lowest — which, given the bickering between Google and Twitter, isnt all that surprising either.
See what I mean?
Here’s a rant on sharing in Google+…
On #2, I had a client ask me yesterday ‘Dropbox or Google Drive’ and I really didn’t have an opinion until I did a little digging. Based on what I’ve read, I’ll be slowing winding down on Dropbox and moving toward Drive. Why? Well in a nutshell…
- Google Drive is cheaper for additional storage
- You can use Google Goggles to search your content
- I’m on Android so that’s a no brainer
Google wins again…
