Colorful Holiday – The Holi in India

Holi is one of the major festivals of India and it is the most vibrant of all festivals. The joy of the holi knows no bound. The festival is celebrated across all the four corners of India or rather across the globe. The festival is filled with so much joy, fun, and frolic that the very mention of the name Holi draws smile and enthusiasm among the people. Holi is also celebrated to signify the arrival of spring, a season of joy and hope.

Celebration Time.

The colorful festival of the Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima that comes in February end or early March, according to the cycle of the moon.

Reason for celebrating Holi festivals.

The Holi festival is celebrated to commemorate the victory of the good over the evil, that is brought about by the burning and the destruction of the demoness named the Holika. This is done through unwavering devotion to the Hindu god of preservation, the Lord Vishnu.

How holi is celebrated.

People spending the day smearing colored powder all over each other’s faces celebrate Holi, they then throw colored water at each other. There are parties all over, and dancing under the water sprinklers. Bhang a paste made from cannabis plants is also traditionally consumed during the celebrations. There is lighting up of bonfire on the Holi eve. There are numerous legends and stories associated with Holi celebration that are narrated making the festival more exuberant and vivid. People then rub gulal and a beer on each other’s faces and cheer up saying, bura Na maano Holi hai. Holi gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones wrapped in a beautiful special Holi gift.

Where Holi is celebrated

You will find Holi festivities taking place in most areas of India. However, they are more exuberant in some places than others; the festival is celebrated in other parts of the world.

Rituals Performed

The emphasis of the Holi rituals is on the burning of the demoness the Holika. On the eve of the Holi, large bonfires are lit to mark occasion and to burn evil spirits. This is known as the Holika Dahan.

The Fun.

Holi is a very carefree festival that is of great fun to participate in. if you do not mind getting very wet and very dirty. You will end up saturated in water, with color all over your skin and the clothes. Some of it does not wash out easily, so be sure to wear old clothes. It is also a very good idea to rub hair oil or the coconut oil into your skin beforehand, to prevent the color from absorbing into your skin.

The beauty of holi celebrations will leave you amazed and enjoying the fun at the same time, the Indians do not fear getting dirty during that time of celebration. Parties and dances are held everywhere during the Holi festivals. It is advisable not to walk alone if you are a young girl since those smoking bang can act inappropriate. The holi celebrate marks the beauty and culture of the Indian people.
